Welcome to AeroMed
This website is dedicated to the health and fitness of aircrew and other personnel involved in aviation.
The aim is to provide relevant information to personnel about the medical services available for Aircrew, Air Traffic Controllers and Cabin Crew.
Periodic medical examinations are required for most personnel involved in safety sensitive aviation activities by ICAO and all national aviation regulators to ensure optimal safety of operations and to minimise risk.
We strive to provide these personnel with relevant information so that they may stay healthy, maintain their certification and fit and continue working in their aviation related activities.
General Information about Medical examinations
Periodic Medical Examinations are a part of the Risk Management System of the Aviation Industry and are a means to :
- Ensure Flight Safety and Minimise Risk
- Improve overall quality, safety and quality of operations with minimum interruptions.
- Operators / Companies also rely on these medical examinations to assess medical fitness of their crew
- Promote Health of Personnel as they are medically evaluated periodically
The periodicity and content (tests and examinations required) vary depending upon the type of job (Pilot, Air Traffic Controller, Cabin Crew, Sports Pilot, etc) and the age of the individual.
Each country's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) or regulator lays down the tests required and the periodicity. They are generally in line with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) but each CAA can have differences from the ICAO guidelines depending upon their own internal risk assessment and safety management system policies, and ICAO is notified about these differences.
