aBOUT gCAA
GCAA is the Civil Aviation Regulator for United Arab Emirates(UAE).
As a part of its role of ensuring flight safety, one of it's roles is also to oversee and regulate the certification of medical fitness of personnel involved in safety sensitive aviation activities. These include Pilots (Airline, Commercial, Private, Balloon, Student and Sports Pilots), Air Traffic Controllers and Cabin Crew.
The GCAA issues regulations and guidelines governing the issue of Medical Certificates for all the personnel mentioned above.
GCAA authorises AeroMedical Examiners (AMEs) to conduct medical examinations.
In addition, it audits and evaluates the medical examinations conducted to ensure the medical examinations are conducted in accordance with the laid down guidelines and to ensure flight safety.
In cases of doubtful medical fitness the final decision is taken by the Aeromedical Section of GCAA.
