CASA issues regulations and guidelines governing the issue of Medical Certificates for all the personnel mentioned above.
CASA designates - Designated Aviation Medical Examiners (DAME) and Designated Aviation Ophthalmologists (DAO) to conduct medical examinations.
In addition, it audits and evaluates the medical examinations conducted to ensure the medical examinations are conducted in accordance with the laid down guidelines and to ensure flight safety.
In cases of doubtful medical fitness the final decision is taken by the Principal Medical Officer and Aviation Medicine Section of CASA.

Content of Medical examinations
The tests and examination required to be conducted are laid down by CASA based on the stage of certification (Initial Issue vs renewal), Class of medical certificate, age of the individual, and presence or absence of co-morbidities like diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney stones, etc. Also, depending upon the findings during the examination, additional tests may be required.

How to Register For a CASA Medical examination
For a CASA Medical examination you need to follow the following steps:
1. Apply for an Individual Aviation Reference Number (ARN) - Individual ARN
2. Visit the myCASA Portal and register for your myCASA account.
3. You can create a myCASA account in two ways -
(a) With an Australian Passport or Australian myGovID Account (needs Australian ID). For more information visit - Individual aviation reference numbers
(b) If you do not have an Australian Passport you can apply for an individual ARN by email. Visit this page for more information visit - Individual Aviation Reference Number
(i) You need to fill out this form - CASA Individual ARN Application Form 1162 (PDF)
(ii) Send the completed form and accompanying documents by email to applications@casa.gov.au
(iii) Once your ARN is allotted - visit myCASA Portal . For help with myCASA visit myCASA Portal Help
(iv) Login to myCASA using your myCASA Account sign in details or Create a myCASA Account
4. If you already have a myCASA Account:
(i) Login to myCASA - navigate to Medical Record System(MRS)
(ii) Follow the steps in MRS to complete your application for your medical certificate.
(iii) You must do this prior to your appointment with a DAME. This applies to all Class 1, 2 and 3 holders.
(iv) First time MRS users will need to provide your full medical history. This includes information about - doctors you have seen, tests you've undergone, medical conditions, treatment undergone and prescribed medications.
(v) You'll need to review and update the information you provide before any future medicals.
(vi) Remember to Pay online (MRS will connect you with a CASA secure online payment facility - Payment is by Visa or MasterCard).
You need to pay the CASA fee to apply for a medical certificate. Presently it is AUD 75.
(vii) This is separate to any fees your DAME charges you to conduct your medical examination.
(viii) Once your payment to CASA is complete - you can go for your appointment with your DAME (Designated Aviation Medical Examiner), You need to provide your ARN Number - with this number he can access your records and complete your medical examination.
(ix) Please note: CASA does not generate a Medical Certificate on the spot - it is sent to you by email once the medical examination is approved by CASA.
